Last Friday my school hosted this dance called Red Light Green Light in
the lower level of the Student Center. Men and women from all of the
surrounding colleges and universities came over for a fun night to
mingle and score a date to next weeks Black Cat Dance. The concept of
the dance was pretty simple; you wear green if you're single, red if
you're taken, and yellow if you're somewhere in the middle. It was exciting to see so many women here at Agnes Scott get ready and talk about what they were going to wear to the dance. At around 10:30 pm everyone started showing up to the dance and by 11 pm the line to get in was insane. The music was good and the people looked great. There even was an open bar set up for students over the age of 21. Everyone seemed to be dancing and connecting with each other and hopefully some of my fellow Scotties were able to score some dates! I know that on the day before this dance, my school also hosted this Date Raffle event. Students were able to bid on a chance to go to Black Cat with an eligible bachelor/bachlorette from the surrounding universities. All proceeds for the event went to AIDS Atlanta and by the end of the night Agnes Scott College was able to raise over $2000! Way to go Scotties!

Atlanta Dragon Boat Festival 2013
This Saturday was awesome! My friends and I attended the Atlanta Dragon Boat Festival in Gainesville, GA. The event consisted of different schools and organizations racing in large "Dragon Boats." Each boat seated 20 people and had a leader in the front who would beat the drum and a person in the back who would steer the boat. There were large dragon heads at the ends of each boat. We all go these really nice T-shirts that said "Paddling to Glory" as our uniform. We all had to meet up at the front loop on campus at 4:45 am. Almost all of us immediately fell asleep on the bus. The Center for Student Engagement at Agnes Scott organized the event and provided the shirts and breakfast for us. When we got to Lake Lanier, I was so amazed at how beautiful everything looked. The water was glistening as the sun rose and the air was so clean. My friends and I were taking photos the whole morning. The team then met up at the stands and started stratagizing. We all practiced our paddling stroke and got in an order that would best fit the boat. I really liked the cool life jackets that we had to wear. Soon we competed in two races. In between the races we were able to explore through the festival. There were many vendors that were giving away free items like school supplies, reusable bottles, and hair accessories, and so much more. We also had the chance to eat some traditional Asian food. From the race I learned a lot about teamwork. We all had to work together and try to give and take while racing. Some people were louder and much stronger than others but in the end we were there to have fun and row some boats! I believe that the event was a great way for us to bond with each other and meet other students at Agnes Scott College.

Honor Code
It's all coming along! The vibe at campus right now is
pretty hectic. Elections for this school year are about to take place
and many students are running around filling out petitions and heading
to interviews. I am going to run for Transfer Student Representative on
the Honor Court. Now, let me tell you a bit about the Honor Court. The
Honor Court works each year to teach students about the Honor Code at
Agnes Scott. Okay so you're probably wondering what is this Honor Code??
It sounds so legit.... Well here it is-- " As a member of the student
body of Agnes Scott College, I consider myself bound by honor to develop
and uphold high standards of honesty and behavior; to strive for full
intellectual and moral stature; to realize my social and academic
responsibility in the community. To attain these ideals, I do therefore
accept this Honor System as my way of life." (agnesscott.edu) I actually
chose to attend Agnes Scott College because of the Honor Code. When I
came here last year for my tour, I was amazed at how respectful everyone
was towards each other. I went to lunch and saw my admissions counselor
just leave her wallet out on the table knowing that it would be at the
same exact place when she returned with her food. When I saw that I told
myself that if someone would leave their wallet out like that, I'm sure
it would have been stolen within minutes. I was wrong. She told me that
there is a great deal of respect and honesty here at Agnes Scott. I
learned more about the code and found out that everyone is expected not
to cheat, steal, or lie. I really like living under this lifestyle
because I can feel safe and know that each and everyday I abide by the
honor code, I am becoming a better person with good morals. I really recommend
everyone to live by the Honor Code whether or not they attend
Agnes Scott because you will be able to live life honestly and without
guilt.

Go With the Flow
So this weekend was pretty good. On Friday
my friends and I decided to go out to Emory University to go out to
some parties. We were pretty disappointed that night. We all took a cab
out there and went Frat house hopping. Within 20 minutes of the start of
the party, it got shut down and my group ended up walking up and down
the neighborhood. We seemed pretty hopeless in finding something to do
for the remainder of the night until one of my friends said that she
knew someone she grew up with who was going to a kick back at the
apartments at Emory. We ended up going there and we had a nice time. The
group was small and the hosts were very kind. The students were very
welcoming and just in a good mood. We sat around, danced, and just
socialized with everyone. I really enjoy going out with my friends and
meeting new people from other schools because I really want to hear what
they think about life here in Georgia. My friends and I caught a ride
home with a cab and did what we always do; we chatted the night away
until we all fell asleep. Saturday and Sunday
was all about hitting the books! I'm finally starting to understand how
classes work over here. I was so used to learning everything I needed
to know during class and being able to pass the exams simply by doing
the homework. I was completely wrong. Here at Agnes Scott, I know that I
need to read over all of the material that is listed on the syllabus
and then when I get to class, we are to speak about what we read and we
elaborate on certain ideas. I believe that discussing our ideas in class
about what we are expected to have read really helps in letting the
information sink in to our brains. Then, after class we are to read the
materials again and then start on any homework problems. Whew! I'm
really in for it over here!

Give and Take
So these past few days have been pretty exhausting. With all of my
classes finally at a working pace, I have realized that there are not
enough hours in the day! There are so many fun things going on around
school, that I am finding it difficult to choose just a few. On Wednesday
there was a Red Cross blood drive going on at the lower floor of Evans
Dining Hall. I went with a few of my friends and donated blood. The food
in the dining hall has been pretty good this week :) My friends and I
are always excited to see what desserts there will be. We also still
have our late night walks to CVS. I see a lot of the students here
taking a walk through Decatur. I'm sure that they are just taking a break
from all that studying... This week in my opinion, has been one of those
weeks where we just lay around and bond more with each other. Last night
I had some friends over it was just like in those movies; we were doing
different hairstyles onto each other and planning what we should wear when we go out
this weekend. I had a blast because the way I am living life over here
is way more relaxed than when I was in California. I feel like I can be my age again! I am really glad I
came out here.

Great Weekend
So this weekend was pretty great. Yesterday was a gloomy day and some of my friends went home for the day, so I ended up hanging around the dorms and just getting myself organized with all of my classes. Eventually my friends all came back and we decided to take a walk around Decatur. We had a lot of fun just talking, getting to know each other more and seeing what's around. We found this awesome bird house looking thing that was filled with books and there was a sign posted that said take one, give one. We all thought that it was such a cool idea. We then headed home and are desserts and watched the move The Conjuring. We invited more girls over and at one point we had 8 girls in our dorm room. The Movie was pretty scary but we had so many pauses throughout because we kept interrupting and going off on a tangent about hilarious things. Today I went to my firstAtlanta Braves game Turner Field. I had a blast! I went with my school and got to meet more girls. Tonight I went out to eat with my friends and went to this cool ice cream place that mixes shaved ice and ice cream with all sorts of toppings. Overall, I had a great weekend for it being so rainy and gloomy. :)

Going Out
So last night I had such a great time going out with my new friends and visiting some Georgia Tech parties. We got ready at night which was really fun because I got to do one of my friends' makeup and it was just nice to be going out of eachother's dorm rooms borrowing clothes and waiting to do our hair. We decided to travel on the Marta which was ok. None of us had our Zip Car cards yet so this was the next best bet. It only cost us each $2.50 to get from Decatur where Agnes Scott is, to Atlanta; where Tech is located. We went to go visit several different fraternity houses and felt a warm welcome from each of them. Our night lasted long and we didn't get home until very late by taxi but I had such a great time. It was a great new experience to go out, bond with my new friends and to make new ones.

Appreciating Nature
So today was a rather humid day here at Agnes Scott. It seemed like every where I went I saw some little critter crawling on thw floor. I was heading over to my Intro to Organizational Management class when I saw a huge caterpillar slugging its way to the grass. I had a great time in class and learned a lot about life in the world of economics. I learned that I should always take a step back and analyze my surroundings. It is important to be aware of what is going on when it has to do with world issues and little things like walking to class because if I wasn't watching where I was stepping, I would squashed that critter. I also realized how beautiful the trees on campus were. I finished class and saw my roomate laying in a hammock. I went over and sat in it and boy was it a great pick me up during my long day. As I layed hanging there in mid air I felt like I was like a leaf just balancing gracefully on the tree branches. It was an awesome feeling and I can wait to go in one again.

First day of class!
So today was the first day of class for me as a transfer student here at Agnes Scott College. I am happy to say that I am starting as a third year student and I am majoring in Economics and Organizational Management. Today I only had to attend a Spanish 101 class so I didn't have much to worry about. I also went to my first day as an intern in the admissions office. I had a a lot of fun but I quickly realized that I need to get my head in the game and start coming up with good ideas for this school year. With all that happened throughout my day, I learned that great friends and memories are out there to be found; it is up to the individual on how that is going to be achieved. I met so many amazing women thus weekend during orientation but now that school is starting and everyone is finding their place with friends and clubs, I am so thankful for having the friends I have made. I don't think I have felt so welcomed and have laughed so hard in a while now and it is just very comforting to know that I live where I am welcomed and that everyone here has a drive to succeed and make a difference in this world, one friendship at a time.
